Promoting therapeutic and relationship-based approaches in social work

Bristol Balloons

As you know much of the activity GAPS plans during the year involves bringing social work practitioners, educators and students together to learn, reflect and recharge.

In 2020 we hoped to visit Leeds, Norwich, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and Cardiff to deliver our National Conference and programme of workshops.

However, things have changed, and since we are unlikely to be meeting in person in the coming months, we would like to know what forms of connection, discussion, reflection or learning you might welcome.

For example, we could:

  • offer online reflection/support groups to consider the impact of the current ‘lock-down’ on your work and the communities and service users you work with. (via Zoom video conferencing)
  • invite our workshop presenters to deliver some half or full day interactive online sessions (via Zoom)
  • create discussion forums around the themes that are emerging from the current situation.  (on GAPS website)
  • host reading groups, reflecting on selected articles from the Journal of Social Work Practice. (These could be by video conference or written medium on our website)

What do you think?

We would really like to know about your interest in, and availability to participate in these types of activities. We would also like to hear about any ideas you have about what GAPS could be offering while we are unable to meet face to face (and beyond that time).  Please let us know by completing the below form.
